Philosophy of Teaching

It is important in a visual arts classroom that students should be able to express themselves creatively. It is the responsibility of the teacher to get the best work out of each student. As a visual arts teacher it is important to be skilled in different art mediums and to be able to provide examples for students. Equally important, is to be able to relate to students and have a positive rapport with students. Having a positive relationship with each student allows the teacher to encourage and challenge each student to perform to the best of their abilities.  The teacher is to provide challenging and thought provoking assignments for the students to push their skills in a visual arts classroom.

CLASS EXPECTATIONS

While most art projects will last at least two weeks to create, we must maximize as much class time as possible to achieve a quality learning experience for everyone. The art classroom should be a safe, learning environment that allows students to create and discuss their art works. The following expectations are to provide structure that sets up each student for success.

  • Come to class on time and be prepared to work. 

  • Demonstrate respect towards self, others, and art materials. 

  • No cell phones/ iPods/ MP3 players

  • Listen and follow directions from teacher and/or other adults

Class rules & consequences

My classroom rules are the following:

1.      A – Aim for your best & to do right.

2.      R – Respect yourself, your friends, and the art room.

3.      T – Trust in yourself & your ability to learn.

My consequences to breaking these rules are:

1.      Warning.

2.      Time Out / Break from art.

3.      Conduct Check & Note home.
